Humidifier started out back in 1987. The four original members (John, Jim, Denis, and Joe) were attending Connecticut's Fairfield University at the time and would play gigs at the local bars or at various friends' house parties. During those college years, they released some demos and managed to put out a full-length LP entitled Misery's Redeeming.

After college, Joe Ryan left the band and Humidifier became a 3-piece. Apparantly, Joe joined the Jesuit Volunteer Corps and journeyed out to the left coast (possibly Oregon). It's believed he is now married and living as part of a rural commune in one of the mid-atlantic states. As for the rest of the band, they released their second official release in the form of a 7-inch EP entitled Louder Than Your Mom. And the next year they recorded a second EP entitled Gazer. The years following would find the members of the band becoming more involved in their personal careers and individual musical endeavors.

John King went on to sing for Our American Cousins, and then on to Spent. After the demise of Spent, he continued writing music and began playing out on his own — while also spending some time involved in producing and engineering. John currently works in publishing in New York and isn't involved in any ongoing musical projects.

Jim Wilbur went on to play guitar for Superchunk for a number of years and now works in the book business in Chapel Hill. Although things have been relatively quiet for Superchunk lately, news has arisen that a new album is in the works for October of 2008.

Denis Saulnier played for a bit in Glen Echo and Pee Wee Fist, and is currently playing with Eric Salt & The Electric City. He also works in educational technology in Boston.

Although the band itself is inactive, Jim, John, and Denis tend to get together every so often to record — and sometimes even to play a few shows. The most significant time this happened was back in 1996, when they put out another full-length album entitled Nothing Changes. This particular album reflected the band's age, as it was a more mature effort then previous releases — yet it still paid homeage to the old days by including some reworked versions of the classic Humidifier songs, "Rubber Gloves" and "Nicotine".

It's 2008 and Humidifier is not together. But like I mentioned, the guys like to stay in touch whenever their schedules allow it. And recently, there's been whispers of possibly getting together again in the future. One can only hope something will come out of it, because in terms of all the memebers of the band enjoying music and being reminiscent of the old days — NOTHING CHANGES.
